GROOVING AT CANOE BAY
The show featured two of TT’s renowned musical acts, Ken “Professor” Philmore & Friends along with the Signal Hill Alumni Choir.
Joining the cast was the Tobago Jazz Connection, a Tobago-based band of very talented musicians and singers featuring lead singer Genivieve who captured her audience with her wide vocal range and a repertoire ranging from soul, soca and pop to jazz. The show was designed to be a family affair on the greens overlooking the almost secluded bay on Tobago’s East coast and some of Tobago’s finest craftsmen also took the opportunity to show their wares such as organic clothing and earth-toned jewelry from Kelvin Julien’s KAJ Designs; Samuel Clarke’s leather creations and Maria Potter’s Jewellery. Her jewelry are made of a combination of shells, seeds and sea glass.
She boasts of clients such as international singing stars India Arie and Natalie Cole who made several purchases after last year’s Jazz Festival. Also displaying work was Joe B known for his wooden sculptures that adorn many homes on the island.
The Tobago Drama Guild were on hand to engage the young ones in the Groovin’ Kids Corner with traditional storytelling and Playback theatre.
According to Creative Director Liza Miller: “This was an opportunity to showcase the best of Tobago, bringing business to them and also bringing an awareness of who they are and the extent of their talent.”
