Catholic priest on crime:
As thousands of Roman Catholics marched through the streets of Sangre Grande yesterday in celebration of the Feast of Divine Mercy, a Roman Catholic priest said crime was contributing to the despair.
Fr Taylor, in his address to the crowd, said with the murder rate climbing in Trinidad and Tobago emotions were running high — from anger and rage to despair and sadness to shock and dismay. He said this Feast was an opportunity to demonstrate Jesus’ love and mercy for all the people and to implore his intervention in this present crisis.
Most of them displayed messages from the Bible and carried messages of love, forgiveness, and mercy.
The parish of Saint Francis of Assisi Sangre Grande, comprising of nine communities headed by Fr Ian Taylor and Fr Muliau Stowers, began the procession from Riverside Complex, Foster Road, Sangre Grande along the Eastern Main Road to Damarie Hill Guaico and back along Railway Road into Brierley Street Sangre Grande
In the Jubilee year, Pope John Paul II declared the Sunday following Easter Sunday as the feast of Divine Mercy.
