Bassarath stars in South East

St Mary’s batted first and scored 304 all out with Randy Singh hitting 79 and Kirlon Gomez, 59. Mafeking in return were shut out for 109 as Zahid Bassarath took three wickets for 37.

Bassarath, who two weeks ago claimed 16 wickets for St Julien in the Third Division, was transferred to the First Division to play with his hometown team.

Asked to follow on Mafeking made 184 all out, thanks to 70 from Rakesh Ramkissoon. The destroyer in the second innings was Seekumar Seepersad with six for 24.

Also in fine form with the ball was Randy Sobie, as he claimed nine for 37 for Victoria against Untouchables.

Replying to Victoria’s first innings of 233, Untouchables were bowled out for just 99 with Randy

Sobie claiming all but one wicket. Batting a second time, Victoria closed on 232 for eight with Rajendra Dhanraj hitting 58.

This match will be completed on Saturday.

In Division III, veteran all-rounder Robert Ramoutar stroked an aggressive 164 for Nazarites, as they took full control in their match against St Julien. His efforts enabled his team to reach 363 for nine declared.

St Julien will reply on Sunday.
