South family beaten, terrorised
Xavier and two of his children: son, Affoyon, 21 and daughter, Macada, 24, were the gang’s latest victims.
They were reportedly beaten on April 6 at about 8.15 pm while on their way home from baptism classes at a nearby church in Pond Street. The incident took place a stone’s throw away from the family’s home.
Xavier told Newsday that he was standing outside the church’s compound on the road talking with one of the baptism class’s tutors and one of his sons, Atioba, 20, when he was alerted by shouts that his son and daughter were being attacked by gang members.
“I just hear someone say ‘watch, watch’. When I look in the direction I just see about five fellas on top of Affoyon. When I attempted to rescue him the guys began hurling bottles and stones at me” Xavier said. He added that he too was attacked and injured during the incident.
When asked what caused the attack, Xavier revealed that earlier in the day the gang members had beaten up a 12-year-old boy, “The fellas and them in front my children had kick up a 12-year-old boy for nothing.
