Cactus worry
My son returned home after the exam and seemed to be puzzled and worried about a question in the spelling section of the Language Arts paper. The pupils were required to write the plural of ‘cactus’. My son had written ‘cactus’ for the answer as taught by his teacher. However, his friend, who attends another school, told him that he had put ‘cacti.’ I then checked the Webster’s dictionary at home and found that there are three possible plural forms of cactus —cacti, cactuses and cactus.
I hope the CXC examiners take notice of this information and give all the pupils a fair chance since such a question possibly carries two marks. Every single mark in such an examination is important and therefore counts. I hope it’s not too late.
