Referee blasts poor behaviour

Celestine was referring especially to the footballers whose clubs are attached to the UWI League.

He officiates as a referee and linesman in the UWI League, and claims that he gives his services virtually free of charge.

Celestine believes the coaches and managers pamper their players and are equally responsible for the their unpleasant behaviour.

In a particular match which saw him functioning as a referee at Constantine Park, Tunapuna, Celestine claimed he was threatened by both the coach and some of the players.

This he said came about because he did not allow a penalty in the last minute of the match when the score was tied at 2-2.

“I think I know enough about football and always thought the referee’s decision was final.

“Frankly, I have a passion for football, but because of the threats I received, very soon, I may have to stop blowing my whistle,” said Celestine.

He was not only unhappy with the players and coaches of some clubs attached to the UWI League, but with others attached to the Eddie Hart League and the T&T Pro League respectively.
