Hampton Games shift to Tobago

Hampton president Rawle Raphael said he was forced to shift the games to the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago, because of repairs being carried out at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

The repairs are not expected to be completed in time for the scheduled May 27 and 28 dates.

And now the Hampton Games will be staged on Friday May 26, and Saturday May 27, because the Dwight Yorke Stadium was pre-booked by WASA for their sports and family day.

Raphael said he approached the WASA organisers and sought a shift of their sports day to Shaw Park, but his request was turned down.

More than seven of the country’s top athletes are expected to contest the games including 200 metres ace Aaron Armstrong who will also compete in the 100 metres.

Also in action will be Kevon Pierre and Jaycee Harper all of whom represented Trinidad and Tobago at the recent Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Also listed to compete are women athletes Sherry Ann Brooks, Natasha Hastings, Kimberly Barrette and shot put queen Cleopatra Borrel-Brown who earned a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Elimination heats for local athletes take place on May 6 and 7 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, starting at 9.30 am both days.

And Caribbean athletes face the heats on May 26 and 27 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium also from 9.30 am.

This means they will have to travel to Tobago between May 24 and 25 to compete in the elimination heats.
