Parkites in trouble at the Oval
Responding to PowerGen’s 174, the Parkites were in trouble at 123 runs for seven wickets with Darren Bravo, brother of West Indies all-rounder Dwayne, unbeaten on 47. Left-hander Justin Guillen made 42.
The spin pair of Samuel Badree (three for 26 in 19 overs) and Trinidad and Tobago’s Dave “Tadpole” Mohammed (three for 30 in 18) did the most damage for PowerGen.
Earlier on in the day, PowerGen relied on 34 from TT’s Jason Mohammed, 29 from his WI youth teammate Rishi Bachan and 23 from national coach David Williams.
Ex-Barbados and West Indies all-rounder Vasbert Drakes claimed four for 17, Reshard Harris got three for 35 and another pacer, Windies Under-19s Kieron Pollard grabbed two for 56.
Another tense encounter is in store at Pierre Road, Charlieville, with Alescon Comet playing CLICO Preysal.
Preysal were restricted to 259 with Guyanese pacer Rayon Griffith grabbing four for 43 and national allrounder Imran Khan taking three for 75 for the hosts.
Left-hander Satish Naidoo led Preysal’s batting with 78, while Lyndon James chipped in with 41 and Shazam Babwah, 29.
Guyanese batsman Travis Dowlin was unbeaten on 58 as Comet reached 170 for four at the close, with current and former TT captains and WI openers Daren Ganga and Suruj Ragoonath hitting 34 and 24 respectively. Keegan Roy took two for 30 for Preysal.
Dane Teelucksingh returned figures of six for 48 and veteran off-spinner Mukesh Persad had two for 80 for FCB Clarke Road United as Ceramic Merry Boys posted 243 in their contest at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground.
Captain Lincoln Roberts topscored with 55 for the hosts, who also got useful contributions of 34 from ex-TT and Windies teammate Marlon Black, 24 from West Indies “A” team all-rounder Richard Kelly.
Leron Lezama and Samuel Felix also contributed 23 apiece and ex-WI left-arm spinner Neil McGarrell chipped in with 22.
Clarke Road will resume today on two without loss. In the clash of the cellar-placed teams, W Connection Wanderers seized first innings points away to Joe Public Munroe Road at Munroe Road, Cunupia.
Former national fast bowler Theodore Modeste took three wickets for nine runs while Avalon Cuffy had two for 21 as Munroe Road were bowled out for 136, with only Valmiki Deonarine (32) making a noteworthy score.
Wanderers closed the day on 144 for four with Vinord Woolcock hitting 56 and Clifton Halls 55, while the evergreen left-arm spinner Steve Roodal claimed two for 26 for the hosts.
