Controversy, Comet declared winners
Needing a further three runs to win, Comet were on 185 for seven wickets, with Zaheer Ali 60 and Rayon Griffith one at the crease when the Preysal players allegedly walked off the field at 6.30 pm yesterday. After a meeting last night, the umpires decided to award the game to Comet.
Comet, resuming on their overnight 170 for four wickets, reached 217 with Travis Dowlin 61, as off-spinners Amit Jaggernauth took four wickets for 54 runs and Ryan Hurley three for 49. With a lead of 42, Preysal were bowled out for 145 in their second innings with Magnum Nanan claiming six wickets for 24 and Imran Khan three for 66. League winners PowerGen ended their season unbeaten as they secured first innings points, in their drawn fixture against Queen’s Park, at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Resuming on 123 for seven wickets in pursuit of PowerGen’s first innings 174, the Parkites were dismissed for 138 with national left-arm spinner Dave “Tadpole” Mohammed getting four for 32 and Samuel Badree three for 32. Darren Bravo topscored with 53.
In their second innings, PowerGen raced to 200 for nine declared with Jason Mohammed hitting 49, Joel Surujbally 33. Pacer Kieron Pollard claimed five for 49.
Set 236 for victory in 49 overs, Queen’s Park were struggling on 122 for seven, with player/coach Vasbert Drakes unbeaten on 30. Badree took three 19 and Dave Mohammed two for 66.
At the Diego Martin Recreation Ground, the respective captains of Ceramic Merry Boys (Lincoln Roberts) and FCB Clarke Road (Mahadeo Bodoe) agreed on a draw after Clarke Road were dismissed for 118, responding to Merry Boys’ 243.
Kenton Thompson took three for 16, Neil McGarrell three for 20 and Aneil Kanhai three for 27 in the Clarke Road innings.
