Magistrate falls ill in court

Ryan Charles of Maracas, St Joseph, appeared before Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Magistrates’ Court charged with having in his possession 22.4 kilos of cocaine at Wrightson Road, Woodbrook on April 25.

Charles appeared last week with two others who were each granted $350,000 bail. Charles appeared yesterday where the issue of bail was addressed.

After hearing from defence attorney Evans Welch, Magistrate Lee Kim stood it down to decide.

But she left the court minutes later and did not return. Instead, Magistrate Alicia Chanka appeared in court and said Lee Kim was ill. Chanka subsequently adjourned Charles’ case to Thursday where the bail issue is expected to be decided.
