PANDAY QUITS AS UNC CHAIRMAN

His resignation was announced by his daughter Mikela Panday at the UNC meeting in Felicity last night, bringing to an end more that 40 years of holding political office as prime minister, opposition leader, political leader and more recently as UNC chairman. On his doctor’s advice Mr Panday, who was listed to speak at last night’s meeting, remained at home.

In his statement he said he did not want the UNC to be burdened by his remaining in office. Mr Panday was last week sentenced to two years in jail for failing to declare to the Integrity Commission his London bank account.

He has appealed and is out on $300,000 bail.
