Rio Claro Killing
THE common-law wife of murdered Rio Claro bar proprietor Archibald Deonarine wept before a Rio Claro magistrate yesterday when she, her son and his friend, appeared in court charged with Deonarine’s murder.
Hyacinth Loubon, 46, appeared before Senior Magistrate Omar Jokhan jointly charged with her son Roger Loubon, 22, and his friend Errol Sylvester, 23, with Deonarine’s murder which took place last week Monday.
Deonarine, 76, proprietor of Archie’s White Gate at Tabaquite Main Road in Rio Claro, was found dead behind his home and businessplace. An autopsy revealed that he had been beaten to death.
The trio was arrested and charged with Deonarine’s murder by Insp Stanley Ramdeen of the Rio Claro Police Station. Instructions to lay the charge were given by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson, after he examined the case file.
Dressed in a white blouse and cream skirt, Hyacinth Loubon wiped away tears with a wash rag as she sat on a bench inside the courtroom.
Her son Roger and his friend Sylvester were the only prisoners in the holding bay when the case was called by Jokhan. The courtroom was packed with relatives of the accused and victim.
After reading the charge to the accused, Jokhan told the trio they were not being called on to enter a plea of “guilty” or “not-guilty,” since the charge was laid indictably.
No bail was given since the charge of murder is a Capital Offence and is not covered under the Bail Act.
The accused’s attorney Terrance Davis requested a full disclosure in the case from the prosecution. Jokhan remanded the three accused into custody to reappear on May 11.
