TT politics in a shambles

However, how can I be expected to support a party where the leadership shows such obnoxious and underhand behaviour? It is no secret that Mr Panday the founder of the UNC promised Mr Dookeran the leadership of the UNC. Now that Mr Panday has been mortally wounded politically we have seen the most shameless usurping of Mr Dookeran’s anointment. First there was the refusal to let Dookeran speak on the Monday after Panday’s incarceration. The argument offered by Jack Warner is that Dookeran did not visit Panday in court. By that argument then Oma Panday should not have been at the head table. By that argument Ramesh Maharaj should not have been allowed to address the crowd either. It is obvious that there were underhand forces at play here who were afraid of letting Dookeran claim his rightful place. So what we had was the absurdity of Ramesh being applauded and hugged while the political leader was banished.

Then there was the manner in which the so-called support for Kamla Persad-Bissessar was garnered. The professional and transparent way to do things would have been to call a meeting of all the opposition Parliamentarians, discuss the issue and then advise the President of the majority consensus. Again it was clear that the clique of usurpers did not want any rational airing of views. I am very sorry but I cannot support any party that operates in such an underhand manner. It is said that a people get the government it deserves. It seems as a people that we certainly deserve the PNM.
