Still no UNC decision on Panday’s exit
Bharath also said the party’s next course of action was to meet with the “widest possible” cross-section of the UNC “family” which would include the youth arm, the women’s league, constituency councils and regional corporation bodies.
This would be done to solicit the views on Panday’s resignation and what should be the party’s position on this. Noticeably absent from last night’s meeting was Political Leader Winston Dookeran who did not inform the executive that he would be absent.
Bharath said he had received no word from Dookeran about his absence from the meeting while Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar confirmed that she too, had no prior warning from Dookeran that he would be absent.
Persad-Bissessar said she hoped “good sense” would prevail in ongoing discussions with Dookeran over the party’s leadership and went on to describe as “very candid” yesterday’s talks she held with Dookeran at his St Augustine constituency office.
Persad-Bissessar said she hoped a decision would be made on this issue (leadership) with Dookeran by tomorrow.
