Govt squanders while poor suffer
It is inconceivable that in a country such as TT with all its immense newfound wealth and an annual budget in excess of $30 billion, the entire infrastructure is in shambles, a large percentage of the population is without such basic amenities as water and roads, a large percentage of the population exists under the poverty line and hundreds of citizens are forced to squat in shacks under deplorable conditions, because the cost of conventional housing regardless of how modest is completely out of their reach.
In the midst of all these unacceptable circumstances the Government is squandering millions of dollars, the rightful property of the citizens of this country, in all sorts of unnecessary projects while members of the population are virtually starving to death with no idea of where their next loaf of bread or cup of tea will come from.
It must be clear to everyone of basic intelligence that the population at large is totally dissatisfied with the present state of affairs in the country, as is evidenced by the continuous protests, demonstrations, marches and other forms of dissatisfaction being expressed on a daily basis. The question is, are the citizens of this country going to merely throw their hands in the air in desperation and sit idly by in the hope that a “Messiah” will emerge from within their midst to deliver them from all their hardships and man-made problems?
It is an unfortunate fact of life that because the population of TT consists mainly of two separate and distinct groups of persons based entirely on ethnic consideration, each politically aligned to a party based on the same ethnic consideration, the citizens have been saddled in the most part with a government comprised of grossly incompetent individuals who are of the erroneous opinion that they were elected to rule and not to serve.
Based on the common belief that “It is better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven,” there is very little hope for any form of relief in the foreseeable future, since the majority of our voting citizens seem to definitely like it so. Until the citizens of this country can come together and unite as nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, there is little hope of attaining any form of proper and equitable administration.
