Post-festival concerts all at once
The choir followed this up by winning six trophies in the recent Music Festival including the prestigious Prime Minister’s trophy for the Most Outstanding Junior Choir and the Joyce Spence trophy for the Most Outstanding School Choir.
It is unfortunate that many music lovers did not have the opportunity to hear their favourites since last week’s music calendar was overcrowded with post-festival concerts. This included the bpTT-sponsored Marionettes Chorale’s “Recital 6-a concert of Festival Champions” on Wednesday night at a packed Queen’s Hall. That concert also featured festival winners in its programme.
The only ‘freebie’ was the Lydians’ sing-a-thon on the All Saints Church lawn followed by the group’s annual Thanksgiving Service on Saturday, before a medium-sized crowd.
The Lydians also used their Music Festival winners and other soloists and choirs who are associated with them. And on Sunday, the UWI Festival Chorale and the National Sinfonia mounted “Musical Festival Winners and Mozart at 250!” at the Central Bank auditorium, in aid of rebuilding the Rose Hill Moravian Church. The ensemble formed part of the opening night ceremonies for the Music Festival.
In addition to the influx of post-Festival concerts, the Patrons of Queen’s Hall presented Canadian Soprano, Denise Williams, on Sunday, under the patronage of His Excellency Howard Strauss, High Commissioner for Canada.
