Sando path lab gets new home
South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA), chief executive officer (CEO), Michael Harris, said yesterday that the new facilities would feature upgraded laboratory equipment while a new staffing structure would be put in place to deal with the chronic staff shortages.
Harris said that moves to gain full accreditation for the laboratory were also being considered with the implementation of the appropriate protocols and standards. A brief ceremony was held yesterday morning to commission the new facilities.
Harris announced that approval from the Ministry of Health for a nuematic transportation system between the lab and the hospital, was being considered to improve the efficieny of health care for patients.
And with regard to finding a permanent home for the laboratory, Harris said that a new facility should be completed within the next two years.
Medical Professionals Association of TT’s MPATT president, Dr Rajendra Persad, said that the lab’s relocation was long overdue.
The temporary facilities, he added, are a small step in the right direction. Also attending the ceremony were SWRHA’s chairman Imitaz Ahamad and SFGH medical chief of staff Dr Austin Trinidade.
