Ready Set Jet zooms home in ‘Dash’

And the Glenn Mendez-trained American-bred three-year-old filly did it in emphatic style, taking the lead after 200 metres and although going a trifle wide on the final bend, flew clear of her field for a two and three-quarter lengths win from Invincibility who ran on well after being an early backmarker.

The time posted by The Jetsetters Stables-owned daughter of Unbridled Jet/Mill Song was a brilliant one minute 12.22 seconds for the 1200 metres race which compared quite favourably with that of 2002 winner Another Decision — one minute 12.2 seconds and last year’s race winner Man Of Class — one minute 12.15 seconds. The sub-feature Gleneagle Stakes Trophy for three-year-olds over 1800 metres was surprisingly won by Angel Of Music who had four lengths to spare runner-up Sky High with pre-race favourite Greek Princess third another length back.

After taking up the running 600 metres out, the Grant Lourenco-trained filly, though noticeably tiring, plugged on for victory. Racing will take a breather Saturday and will resume on May 20.
