Autopsies today on fire victims
Taitt and Fortune perished when fire broke out at their Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain apartment early Saturday. The fire is believed to have been maliciously set.
Officers probing the deaths, said they will consult Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson today, following autopsies which are expected to be carried out at the Forensic Science Centre in St James today.
Patsy Taitt, aunt of the dead child told Newsday she will be handling the funeral arrangements for young Josiah, with the assistance of his father Marvyn.
Jameela Toby, the mother of Josiah remained in a daze yesterday still unable to come to terms with the death of her son and companion.
“Oh God, I can’t live without them. Why did this happen,” she asked while being comforted by relatives.
Yesterday, investigators returned to the smouldering ruins searching for evidence. Four persons who escaped death when the fire broke out, have already given statements to investigators.
The suspect who has been living in Trinidad for some time, was reportedly in a state of depression yesterday and had to be given medical treatment.
An eyewitness, who suffered severe burns in the fire, yesterday remained in critical condition and is warded at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
Moments after the fire was doused, there was a heated exchange between residents over who was responsible for the fire, as emotions ran high among the affected residents and their relatives.
Visiting the scene were Port-of-Spain CID officers as well as officers from the TT Fire Services.
