Warriors, Strike Squad get Legends medals
SOCA WARRIORS footballers will receive Legends of Soccer medals after their international friendly match against Peru tonight.
According to New Era Incorporated Company Limited through special adviser attorney Peter Taylor, the medals will be presented after the match since this will be the last opportunity to do so before they leave for Germany and the World Cup finals which begin on June 9.
These custom made medals were produced by Designs Insignia of Toronto, Canada, and arrived here recently.
Apart from the current “Soca Warriors,” the Strike Squad of 1990, the ill-fated 1974 squad which scored six goals against Haiti but lost 2-1 because of unscrupulous refereeing and linesmen and the 1966 squad are also to get medals but at a later date. The medals will be handed out by Sagicor general manager Robert Trestrail, who sponsored the striking of the medals and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation president Oliver Camps.
Taylor said his NEI company wants to publicly thank FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, TTFF secretary Richard Eastern Football Association secretary Neville Ferguson, Soca Warrior Marvin “Dog” Andrews and Sagicor’s Yasmin Rezende for their in-put.
