42 left in for Midsummer Classic

When second subscriptions were taken yesterday, there were 42 horses for which $400 each was paid for a total of $16,800.

Total subscriptions collected for the race to date amounted to $41,300.

The third and final subscription for the 1900 metres race becomes due on June 14.

At the first subscription stage, there were 49 horses for which connections paid up for a chance to race.

Apart from the John O’Brien-trained Russian Dancer the other six are, the Juan Mosca-trained pair Catch Me Juan and Money Up Front; Andthistoowillpass; Mystery Girl; Va-Va-Voom and Straight Drive. The Midsummer Classic is scheduled to be run off on August 1, Day 22 of the local horse racing season.

But this race could see the return of two-year-old champion All For Java, after a bout with injury.

The Java In Flight Set All gelding will renew rivalry with stablemate Greek Princess, Sara’s Music and Jacobite.
