Bakr: $30M owed to Govt, paid
At yesterday’s case management hearing at the Port-of-Spain Civil Court, Bakr’s attorney Mark Seepersad informed Justice Rajendra Narine that it was the intention of his client to argue that the debt had been satisfied.
The State, however, is still intent on attempting to offset the Imam’s debt with the sale of his (Bakr’s) properties. Hearing was adjourned to June 12 because the valuation reports on the property in question were not ready.
Both State attorney Dana Seetahal and Seepersad requested the month long adjournment in order to ensure all the necessary documents were in their possessions, so they could proceed with the matter.
Seepersad, who failed to file an important affidavit, was warned by Justice Narine that if the document was not filed by the next hearing, he (Narine) would proceed with the matter without it.
“I am not generally impatient, but you have already been given two chances,” the judge said.
