Govt steps up to tackle crime

In a statement issued Thursday, the Ministry of National Security listed these measures as:

• expansion of the police homicide bureau from 47 to 135 investigators;

• 100 police officers receiving specialised training from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in crime scene investigation;

• closer collaboration with security agencies in the US and other countries to bring drug traffickers and other criminals to justice;

• formation of a homicide prevention working group in the Police Service;

• introduction of British metropolitan police officers to assist the Police Service;

• expanding the Police Complaints Division from 16 to 58 persons;

• establishing an incident coordination centre;

• upgrading the Forensic Science Centre in St James;
