Fair Trading Bill

UPCOMING Parliamentary events may not be as thrilling as the excitement which dominated the political scene last week.

The Senate will meet tomorrow at 1.30 pm, when the debate on the Fair Trading Bill 2006 is expected to continue. The bill seeks to establish a fair trading commission, which is expected to promote and maintain effective competition in the economy and to ensure that competition is not distorted, restricted or prevented in Trinidad and Tobago to the detriment of the community. It would also establish a community competition commission that would deal with issues involving anti-competitive conduct in another state which has the effect of lessening competition in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Public Accounts Committee will meet at 1.30 pm on May 17. The meeting will be in- camera.
