Manning praises Edinburgh school

“I think you need more to carry on the excellent work you are doing at the moment, “ Manning said.

Manning had organised a programme to visit schools in the Caroni Education Division to get a first hand knowledge on the implementation of the new curriculum and how it has been influencing the lives of students as they enter the information technology age.

She and some 22 technocrats made the first stop at the Couva Government Secondary School.

There she told staff that a new school would be constructed to cater for the needs of the subject areas on the new curriculum.

She then journeyed to the Edinburgh Government School.

She was greeted by the Principal Elizabeth Sinanan and her staff who discussed the new Housing Project that is to come on stream shortly and its implications with respect to a functional sewerage system.

Manning was entertained by the school steelband which placed first among schools at the Pt Fortin Borough celebrations last week.

The Minister and her entourage looked on admiringly at pupils’ performance of Duke’s “Thunder” and when they were through, she shook the hands of all the players as they bowed their way out into the background.

After Manning toured the Art and Craft and Science sections and she was so pleased that she commended the principal and staff “for their excellent teaching skills delivering quality education to the pupils of the area.”

The computer beginner’s class really pleased the Minister with their response to questions from the teacher, Rajendra Ramdat, and Manning said: “You really need additional computers to encourage more pupils to master the keyboard and the mouse-pad.”

She noted that the school had been functioning effectively with few complaints “and as such you deserve high marks for your efficiency in fulfilling the needs of the curriculum.”

Manning spoke about the ministry’s thrust in establishing early childhood centres and said that one would soon be built on the school’s compound.

The Minister held a private session with the teachers and who were lauded for their commitment and dedication to duty which have helped to rank them high among the 70 primary schools in the Caroni Education Division.

She highly commended schools in the Caroni Education Division for their excellent performance in the National Tests and other divisions that were also praised were East St George and Victoria.
