No UK, US mention of PoS explosion
In its latest travel advisory issued Friday, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) made no mention of Thursday’s explosion and has not advised British citizens against visiting this country. The FCO reiterated its long-standing advice to British nationals to exercise caution and good judgment where crime is concerned and remain aware of “the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks.”
The FCO added that last year’s explosions in Port-of-Spain were being investigated by the police.
This position was supported by Friday’s advisory from the US State Department which also made no mention of Thursday’s explosion. The State Department only said three explosions occurred in Port-of-Spain last year on the 10th and 11th of three consecutive months and US citizens should exercise caution in downtown Port-of-Spain around those times.
The State Department added that there was no evidence of Americans being targeted as victims of those explosions but US citizens must remain vigilant about the global threat of indiscriminate terrorist attacks. The Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry only mentioned last year’s explosions in Port-of-Spain and has issued no travel advisories against TT. The Australian Foreign Affairs Ministry has maintained its advice to Australian nationals visiting TT to exercise caution where crime is concerned but does not view Thursday’s explosion as a criminal act.
