WeBeat launch

WeBeat St James started six years ago setting the stage for an annual event designed to celebrate our rich and diverse cultures and at the same time commemorate the incorporation of the burgess in the City of Port-of-Spain.

The nine-day extravaganza is a special event created on the basis of a vision of the St James Community Improvement Committee (CIC).

Working with the theme “We Reach...A Tribute to the Soca Warriors”, the committee intends to use the national hype as a springboard to WeBeat 2K6 which runs from June 2-10 at the St James Amphitheatre, Western Main Road, St James.

In keeping with the tradition of honouring people from the community this year National Football Technical Director Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips and Carlton “General” Franco are the honourees.

At the launch, Port-of-Spain Mayor, Murchison Brown commended the CIC committee for their efforts and donated a cheque towards WeBeat 2006.

The launch also saw several entertainment pieces by calypsonians and St James Tripolians Steel Orchestra. Here are some of the highlights.
