Power failure at TSTT
Some workers at the exchange told Newsday a power failure occurred at the building shortly after 1pm and they believed that it was a generator problem. TSTT corporate communications officer Graham Suite confirmed that Nelson Exchange operations were hampered due to an “electrical problem” and the company was working with TTEC to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.
Suite gave the assurance that fixed line, mobile and Internet services operating out of the exchange were not affected by the power failure because its standby generators were providing power to allow these services to continue.
He said the only service at the exchange to be affected was its international call centre but that was only because the operators were out of the building due to the power failure.
Asked whether the Nelson Exchange had experienced similar power failures in the past, Suite said he was unaware of that but explained that all of TSTT’s telephone exchanges have back-up facilities.
