Trini charged in Guyana
Judge William Ramlal yesterday granted bail to Mohamed Azim and Trinidadian Nadir Jerome Mariam also known as ‘‘Joseph Aboud,’’ after the police produced the men to court in accordance with an order resulting from a writ of habeas corpus. When the men, allegedly detained for over ten days without being charged, they were produced in court yesterday, attorney from the Attorney General’s Chambers, Kamini Roopnauth, disclosed that charges had since been laid against the detainees.
This sparked off legal arguments for bail between lawyers Vic Puran for Aboud and Steven Fraser for Azim.
The detainees were each allowed bail in the sum of $125,000. In addition to being charged with unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, Aboud was also accused of overstaying his time in Guyana. He was arrested by the Guyana Police Force at his residence at 355 Cummings Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown, on May 3.
