CJ case set for July 5

Attorneys for both the CJ and the PM yesterday appeared before Justice Carlton Best at the Port-of-Spain Chamber Court. The proceedings were in-camera.

Sharma had on May 12 been granted leave by Justice Rajendra Narine to file for judicial review to block Manning’s May 10 decision to begin the process under Section 137 of the Constitution, to have him investigated with a view to his possible removal from office.

Manning’s action stemmed from a complaint from the Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson that Sharma tried to influence him in the prosecution of vascular surgeon Prof Vijay Naraynsingh when he was charged with the murder of his second wife Dr Chandra Naraynsingh.

A jury acquitted the professor.
