Trainers take it light at Santa Rosa gallops

Faster work can be expected this morning as the handlers attempt to put an edge on their charges.

Best of yesterday morning’s gallops came from Skippy’s Dream who was sent over 1000 metres and returned the handy time of one minute 05.66 seconds.

Another handy spin was returned by The Terminator who seems to be coming to hand at last, judging by his consistently quick times at gallops. This Barbados-bred gelding went through 400 metres in the handy time of 26.31 seconds. And Miss Julie showed she has lost none of her quickness with a steady run over the same trip in 27.80 seconds.

Meanwhile, connections of three-year-olds are reminded they must pay up third and final subscription of $400 today for the Guineas, first of the local triple crown.

This Grade 1 race over 1800 metres will be run off on May 30.

At the second subscription stage, connections paid $400 for the 28 horses left in for a total of $11,200.

It is anticipated that at least seven will be taken out of the race which to date has a total subscription of $36,400.
