Cops take suspect

POLICE investigating the murder of four-year-old Emily Anamanthodo, yesterday searched her Batan Drive, Marabella home and seized the clothing the baby girl was wearing on Monday night.

Police sources disclosed that their investigation revealed the child was tied by the hair to the ceiling and beaten to death, by someone close to her.

Accompanying the police was a female relative of the child who as she made her way to the house — hiding her face in the process — was jeered by residents who had to be restrained by the officers.

The police and woman went to the house at 10 am and spent two hours there.

As the woman was being taken away from the house, three female residents threatened her with violence in the presence of the officers.

Inspector Fitzgerald George of the Homicide Bureau stated that investigators would present the case file to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson for a decision on how to proceed with the matter. Charges are expected to be laid.

Baby Emily will be buried today following a funeral service at the home of her grandmother Chanadaye Basdeo, 59.

Yesterday, the grandmother erected a small tent next to her Snake Alley, Marabella home. “I tired asking if Emily was alright. You know how much times I asked if everything was alright. I tried my best and if I could bring Emily back to life, I would,” Basdeo said.
