Atlantic gas leak under control

A company spokesman told Newsday a natural gas release was detected from a two-inch pipeline near Train II at about 7.30 am yesterday and the gas supply to that line was immediately cut off once the release was detected.

The company said all personnel within the area were evacuated in accordance with safety procedures and the site’s incident response team was deployed to manage and investigate the incident.

ALNG said there were no reports of injuries and perimeter monitoring confirmed that the impact of the release was contained on site. Personnel were expected to return to the site at 1 pm and the company continues to monitor the situation.

The company added that natural gas is a naturally-occuring non-toxic substance, comprising mainly methane and ethane.
