Jockey tactics to decide Imported Sprint

The seven runner-field in this 1350 metres dash is chock full of speedsters, and the rider who uses his head could land his mount a winner.

Turfites believe the race is a two-horse affair between Coconut Boy and Hello Yankee, both winners of their last start.

But it is to be remembered that Stravinskys Secret is no slouch, and he too won his last start on Indian Arrival Day.

The Chester Roberts-trained Indian Izzi can also flash some speed, and has been specially set aside for this race with a $50,000 purse. But the way the main duo have been galloping, it will take a special run by one of the other five to separate them.

Another race which promises a tight finish is the 1200 metres sprint for three-year-old maidens. The money must be on Action, Assurance, Bling Bling, the highly thought of Sky Bird and the unraced Frankiesweetheart.

Glenn Mendez’s charge, Bling Bling, has been going quite well at gallops, and the same can be said of Action from the John O’Brien barn.

The well bred Assurance, by Windy Hill/Safety Deposit from the Grant Lourenco stables, put in two good performances in two starts, finishing second on both occasions, and must be strongly respected.

He was beaten a short head by Mystery Girl, a recent winner and a head by Rhythm Of Life, both raced over 1100 metres.

But the one to fear most is Shaffique Khan’s filly Frankiesweetheart who was set to make her debut on May 20 but was a late withdrawal.

The ten-race card should provide some very tight and exciting finishes with the horses well matched in each race.
