Sando TML tops Labour Day quiz

With 41 southern primary schools participating in the annual competition, San Fernando TML was able to cop first place in both aspects of the competition and as a result — overall victory.

Held at the OWTU Hall, Paramount Building, San Fernando, TML and Point Fortin Anglican Primary School competed against each other in the Labour Day Quiz competition. Representing TML were Kelsea Bainey, Shalini Maharaj and Vevek Maharaj.

On the opposing team — (Point Fortin Anglican) — were Denisha Richardson, Ariel Caton and Keandra Guisehand.

After three rounds of tough questions — San Fernando TML scored a total of 17 points — copping first place while the other team earned second position with ten points.

The questions were based on historical events as well as personalities who played an integral role in the Labour Day movement between 1962 — 1977.

In the OWTU’s Poster competition titled: “Soca Warriors — Bringing the country together on their journey to Germany” Saadiqa Ali, a Standard Five pupil at the San Fernando TML, was adjudged first place winner.

San Fernando TML’s Principal, Camille Hosein, expressed delight over the victory captured by her pupils in both competitions. “I am very happy for the pupils.

“I know they worked hard in preparing for the competitions and because of their hardwork and commitment, they were able to win overall. Congratulations,” a proud Hosein said.

Some of the competing schools included: St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Primary School, St Bridget’s Roman Catholic Primary School and Grant Memorial Roman Catholic Primary School.

The competitions were organised by David Abdulah, president of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions — an umbrella body of the OWTU.
