Top coaches at UWI camp

The disclipines are volleyball, women’s cricket, basketball, women’s football and hockey and will be staged between July and August at UWISPEC, St Augustine.

The camp is an opportunity for youths between the ages of 11 and 18 to be instructed to the highest standards by local and international coaches in a sport of their choice.

They will also find out more about the issues and values of Sport Nutrition and Prevention and Care of injuries.

Former coach and captain of the West Indies Women’s Cricket team and a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ann Browne-John leads the women’s cricket camp which started on Monday and ends on Friday.

And head coach of the American International College, Shawn Campbell teaches volleyball on the same days. Eastern New Mexico University Men’s Assistant Coach, Marcus King and widely recognised football coach mentor Butch Lauffer, author of Techniques, Tactics and Teamwork for Women’s Soccer coached basketball and football respectively.

Dutch coach Martin Van de Rakt and local coach David Francis have been solicited to coach in the hockey camp from August 13 to 17.

Campers will have the opportunity to learn fundamentals of sport, improve their basic game skills, knowledge and fitness, improve teamwork and fair play all in a highly enjoyable environment.

And lunch will be provided daily for all participants.
