US-born cyclist to ride for TT
Newsday understands that cyclists have been shortlisted from the ongoing National Championship which is being held at the Arima Velodrome.
The list includes Michael Tung, Alexander Gibbon, the grandson of local cycling icon Roger Gibbon; King Ettienne, Gevan Samuel, the son of cycling great Gene Samuel; Abede Chalmers and Tireef Smart.
The team will leave in two batches with the first to wing-out tomorrow, well ahead of the championships. The team will be coached by Colombian Absie Rincon and will be managed by Robert Farrier.
Only recently the junior cyclists were attempting to impress the coach with the hope of being selected on the team.
Among them King Ettienne who won the Match Sprint while Tung, Chalmers and Smart secured the second, third and fourth positions.
Gibbon also copped the top spot in the Kilo with Chalmers, Samuel and Ettienne claiming the other positions.
Action continued over the weekend.
