Secret Service to greet Obama

Local police sources told Newsday Secret Service agents, who have been in this country for several days, will escort President Obama to his official limousine commonly called ‘The Beast’ and will form part of a 35-strong security escort accompanying Obama from the airport, onto the Priority Bus Route, west into Port-of-Spain, onto Wrightson Road and then to the Hyatt Hotel at the International Waterfront Centre where the summit will be staged.

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez, the next main personality at the summit, is scheduled to arrive sometime today, but sources would not state at what time, he would do so. Yesterday, at midday, a Venezuelan aircraft landed at Piarco carrying members of the elite Fuerzas Armadas Nacionales (FAN).

Sources also revealed vessels from the Guardia Nacional arrived yesterday and are docked in the Gulf of Paria. The Guardia Nacional will form part of an international fleet of coast guard vessels who will maintain a tight security ring out at sea.
