Anisa clinches cricket award

Mohammed, vice-captain of the West Indies team to the South Africa tour last October and the home series against England in November, secured the award ahead of her West Indies teammates Stacy-Ann King, Amanda Samaroo, and Britney Cooper.

The 21-year-old Mohammed, who began her international career as a 14-year-old, had a year of several stout performances that included appearances at the Women’s World Cup and the World Twenty20 tournament.

She helped TT win the West Indies Women’s Cricket 50-over Championship crown, her three-wicket haul in the final lifting them to victory over Jamaica in the deciding match.

Mohammed also recorded a career-best five for 10 during a T20 international last October against South Africa that helped West Indies secure a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Mohammed, King, Cooper, Samaroo and Alisa Mohammed, Anisa’s sister, were named as TT’s five women’s cricketers of the year in the 2009 TT Women’s Cricket Board (TTWCB) Awards Ceremony.

The 16-year-old Samaroo, who made her West Indies debut last year, won the T&T “Youth Player of the Year” award. (CMC)
