Champs Debe start winning in girls football
National midfielder Kayla Taylor opened the scoring with a goal in the 20th minute and Afeisha Clement put the result beyond doubt with her strike in the 60th.
Meanwhile, Holy Faith Convent hammered Pleasantville 6-1 with Tisha Belfon scoring a hat-trick. Kerchelle Torres notched a brace and Shanelle Greaves scored the other. Shenice George scored the consolation.
Elsewhere, Point Fortin East defeated Fyzabad Anglican 2-0 with goals from Abigail Jacob and Camille Charles.
Reigning East Zone champions Toco Secondary crushed St George’s College 4-1 in their opening game at the Toco grounds.
Luwanda Inniss put Toco ahead in the 10th and the hosts had to wait just 10 more minutes to double the lead with Jilleisha Moran finding the target.
Any hope of a second-half comeback was put to rest in the 46th minute when Kelly-Ann Francois scored for Toco to give them a 3-0 lead. Tannia Joseph reduced the deficit for St George’s with a goal in the 55th but Kadisha Benitto rounded off the Toco scoring in the 72nd.
In the other East Zone match, San Juan North got the better of St Augustine Secondary 4-2.
Whitney Alexander scored a pair for San Juan who also got goals from Victoria De Silva and Brittney Prescott. Sharice Arthur scored both goals for St Augustine from penalty kicks.
In the North Zone, last year’s winners Providence had the most impressive win of the day, mauling Blanchisseuse 9-3 at Blanchisseuse.
Akeisha De la Rose was in prolific form, scoring a beaver-trick (four goals) while Brittany Farah scored two and Samantha Kissoon, Christianna Petit and Tayna Harris had one each. Cherlana McClean scored all three goals for Blanchisseuse.
Also, Jolene Mendes bagged a double to help Maple Leaf International edge St Joseph’s Convent 3-2.
Mendes’ brace and a Dominique Campbell goal was good enough to give Maple Leaf all three points in the tricky encounter with St Joseph’s Convent who got goals from Danielle Bachew and Maya Matouk.
In the other North Zone match, St Francois Girls walloped Malick Secondary 6-0 with Della Joseph and Gabrella Ryan scoring two each. Nickera Solomon and Asha Jones had one each.
