‘Spektakula Thru the Years’

Titled “Spektakula Thru The Years” it will be the first appearance on a big calypso stage for the reigning Extempo Monarch and former National Calypso Monarch since his parliamentary appointment. He says he’s eager to return to stage especially for such a historic event.

“I am a performer, it’s what got me to where I am in the first place, so I’m always eager to return to the stage and even more so for the reunion of Calypso Spektakula,” Peters said. Spektakula has been a great cultural institute in this country and we have seen the demise of the calypso tent so it’s even more important for us to come together and do something. I for one am eager.”

The brainchild of Spektakula Promotions Limited, Calypso Spektakula has been a major showpiece of TT Carnival for more than two decades following its launch in 1982. “Spektakula Thru The Years” reunites the very best of the genre for a royal night calypso fans will not want to miss.

Former National Calypso Monarchs Hollis “Chalkdust” Liverpool, David Michael Rudder, Morel “Luta” Peters and Robert “Lord Nelson” Nelson, all part of the original “Spektakula Thru The Years” cast, are carded to appear on the “Spektakula Thru The Years’ stage. Calypso veterans Elon “Cardinal” Baggoo, Daniel “Trinidad Rio” Brown, 3 Canal, Errol “Bally” Ballantyne and former Chutney Monarch Ricky “Rikki Jai” Jaimungal complete a star studded cast.

MCs for the night are Calypso Spektakula stalwart Tommy Joseph who lasted the entire 25 years with the tent, ably supported by Donna Hadad.

Spektakula Promotions Director Frank Martineau says “Spektakula Thru The Years” is designed to showcase the glory days of calypso music by recreating for old fans and introducing new fans to the Calypso Spektakula experience.
