'Fashionista' PM: I only wear flats

“It’s the healthier thing to do,” the Prime Minister opined while showing off her sandals, black and flat with one band across her toes and two straps on her ankles covered in diamantes.

She was the feature speaker at the Trinidad and Tobago Consular Corps’ International Food Festival held Saturday evening at the Trinidad Hilton Hotel.

Chefs of the hotel prepared over 30 dishes from countries which have consulates or embassies located in Trinidad. Persad-Bissessar recently underwent a check-up after complaining of feeling unwell and having swollen feet.

At such an event, she said she would usually wear high heeled shoes but decided to wear flat ones. “You may be more comfortable standing around if you wear flat shoes. Try it from now until the end of the year,” she advised. The food fair was Persad-Bissessar’s first public appearance since she returned to work late last week.

She praised the Consular Corp for hosting the festival because it provides a wonderful opportunity for citizens to be exposed to the different foods and cultures of the world. She also commended them for donating proceeds of the food fair to the Children’s Life Fund, the Animal Welfare Network and the Renal Dialysis Centres.
