Cassie doubles up at Junior badminton
Cassie proved to be the most dominant young athlete and went unbeaten in both divisions.
In the Boys’ Under-10 final, Cassie defeated club-mate Avidesh Marajh in straight sets. He won the title match 21-14, 21-16. The national player beat third-placed Michael Constantine 21-11, 21-8 in his semi-final encounter.
This year’s CAREBACO Boys’ Under-11 winner put himself to the test and also copped the Under-12 trophy in fine style. Cassie breezed past Aleem Ali (Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College) 21-18, 21-5 in the championship match. He also defeated Daniel Bhola (Presentation College, San Fernando) 21-12, 21-9 in the semi-final and Jonathan Ali (21-4, 21-5) in the “quarters”.
The Girls’ Under-12 Singles was won by Shuttle Force player Ralitsa Wong, who cruised past Nikitha Yenugonda 21-10 21-12.
In the Boys’ Under-14 Singles, Shuttle Force club player Will Lee emerged victorious when he cruised past runner-up Adrian Nicholson (Shuttle Force) 21-19, 10-21, 21-19 in the final. Coming in third was Virin Badrie Maharaj (Presentation College, Chaguanas) and CBAC’s Vikash Marajh was fourth.
The Girls’ equivalent saw Jada Renales (Shuttle Force) lift the trophy after an emphatic 21-9 21-4 win over Shanika Ramlochan (CBAC). Xadelle Mohess of CBAC came in third. Renales also received top honours when she beat Shanika Ramlochan 21-9, 21-4 in the Girls’ Under-16 Singles final. In her semi-final match, Renales was victorious over CBAC player Xadelle Mohess 21-15, 21-5.
The Boys’ equivalent featured this year’s CAREBACO representative, Jason Ramjass (Cristars) being awarded the title. He defeated fellow club-mate Richard Lalla 21-17, 21-19 to lift the trophy
The CBAC club also took advantage in the Girls’ Doubles Under-18 and copped gold, silver and bronze in the division. CBAC players, Sarika Ramlochan/ Naveeta Marajh were crowned champions after crushing club-mates Soraiya Khan/ Nuriya Khan 21-15, 21-14 in the final match. Taking third position was Shannon Sundersingh/ Felisha Hosein and coming in fourth was Jaya Bridgemohan/ Xuxa Maraj of St Augustine Girls’ High School.
Samurai players, Junior Persad/ Aimah Smith won the Boys’ Doubles Under-18 when they beat Naim Mohammed/ Darion Ramoutar (CBAC) 21-17, 16-21, 21-16 in the title match.
