Young Baptists sing a new song
“Our elders toiled tirelessly to bring this faith to what it is today and we the youths must carry on the duty, ensuring that it is done in our father’s name, Jesus Christ,” he said.
Eastman made this statement yesterday during the Spiritual Baptist Faith “International Spiritual Baptist Youth Day,” which was recognised and celebrated yesterday at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s.
Eastman urged the younger ones within the faith to rely on the experience and discernment of the elders as they will be able to guide their paths and act as overseer in their lives.
Spiritual Baptist leaders and their congregation from 33 churches, gathered to celebrate under the theme “Sing Me a New Song” which encouraged the expressions of young people within the faith.
The theme for the celebration “Sing Me a New Song” will seek to facilitate the expression of the youth to foster and strengthen fellowship and highlighting their talents.
Two workshops — one in Trinidad and one in Tobago were held in order to prepare choirs and other participants for the musical vibrations of the faith, from the youths for the celebration yesterday.
At Queens Hall, several choirs from within the faith sang hymns and songs of worship and even children as young as seven and eight years old were seen singing their hearts out to the delight of those in attendance.
The focus of this year’s celebration on youth was done with the intention to “guarantee the sustainability of the faith. Youth of the various region/countries must be empowered since they are the ones to inherit the legacy left by generations of Spiritual Baptist Faith practitioners wherever they are dispersed.”
