Mayor: Land for green space
Lee Sing said with the over development of west PoS, insufficient attention was being paid to the establishment of green spaces. He hopes neighbouring residential associations would work with the City Council to give life to what would be called the, “West Park Savannah.”
“Somewhere in the judgment the judge pointed to the fact that this is not for housing,” Lee Sing said.
“It is interesting that the judge would be saying that when, during the interim, the Council was thinking out carefully what had to be done and finally agreed that the best purpose for this land, given the clustering taking place in West PoS, was to create a nice open space.”
Originally, the corporation had intentions of constructing a secondary school, as well as an administrative complex for the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, on the land. “Clearly they must now find space elsewhere to do that and I’m sure that they will find space,” he said.
Lee Sing stated that the Corporation plans to erect play park equipment for children, benches and walking spaces on the property. He also mentioned that the abandoned wells would be good museum artifacts.
In response to the judgment, WASA Head of Corporate Communications, Ellen Lewis said the company is examining its options which may include the possibility of an appeal.
