RAFA hails Justice Cross

Cross was serving his second consecutive three-year term as RAFA president when he passed away last Friday afternoon at the age of 96.

Olivier yesterday said RAFA is observing four days of mourning, ahead of a public memorial on Friday at Memorial Park, Port-of-Spain (PoS).

Olivier said Cross and his family wanted a “public event at Memorial Park because even as people were celebrating his life, Ulric wanted them to remember the fallen soldiers. He often said, ‘We must remember them.’” The memorial takes place after a private interment on Thursday at an undisclosed location, per the wishes of the Cross family.

Persons can pay their respects to the decorated war veteran, legal luminary and distinguished diplomat, by writing in a condolence book that will be available at Memorial Park, from 9 am on Friday. Prior to that, the condolence book can be accessed at RAFA, 20 Queen’s Park East, PoS which will be open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm until Thursday. Olivier said Cross had a vision to build a Military Veterans’ Complex on the RAFA compound. The Military Veterans’ Complex, estimated to cost between $130 million to $150 million, will have underground parking, provide rehabilitative and other medical services, house the administrative offices for RAFA, and also have apartments and hotel rooms for in-transit military personnel.

Contributions to the project can be made at First Citizens banks, account 2110492.
