Shoppers crowd PoS for after-Christmas sale
Some people were seen walking through the streets looking for a last-minute gift item, while some were just sitting in Rituals coffee shop relaxing and chatting on Frederick Street.
Newsday spoke with shopper Marsha Bullen-Jones from Chaguanas who was doing some shopping at Excellent Stores, for additional Christmas decorations. “I do this every year, I normally wait for the after Christmas and Boxing Day sale. The decorations are good and are of high quality. Most important they are very cheap at this time,” she said. “I already know what I would like to do for next Christmas, so I know what I have to get. I am taking full advantage of the bargains the store has today.”
A shopper who identified herself as “Natalie” said, “I don’t normally shop during the Christmas season because of the crowd, and the lack of security around Port-of-Spain, so I wait for the after-Christmas sales some stores will have. It is much easier to do my shopping when there are less people in and around town, she said.
“I bought myself some new shoes and clothes, it was much easier getting around, looking and shopping for clothes after the holidays,” Natalie added.
Newsday also spoke with “Derrick”, another shopper, who said, “I have nothing else to do at home and I am still on my holidays, so I am just walking around. I have nothing in mind to get, but if something catches my eyes I may just get it,” he said.
A staff member from Singh’s Electronics said there were a lot of shoppers still looking for gifts, although they did not have any additional discounts on their sale items. She said sales were going fairly well. However, Rattan’s on Henry Street had shoppers stopping and looking at their items with their massive 50-60 percent-off sale.
