Weeks to help symposium participants build reputation

Your name, character and reputation are the key ingredients required to ensure success in both obtaining and capitalising on the many job opportunities and promotions which may become available to you.

At the Women’s Symposium scheduled for April 26, Charlotte Weeks, who wears many hats in the field of Career and Human Resource Management, will present, “Build Your Reputation to Attract Job Opportunities and Promotions.”

Weeks is a certified career management coach; dual-certified resum? writer; past president of the National Resum? Writers’ Association and the owner of Weeks’ Career Services, located in Chicago, USA.

Her clientele includes both female and male professionals who all have a passion for and interest in landing their dream job. Symposium organisers briefly interviewed Charlotte who shared some very interesting information on some of her achievements and experiences in working with women.

She said, “Women can truly do whatever they set their minds to do, yet too many women sell themselves short. Many struggle with over-apologising, self-doubt, not putting themselves out there for promotions. The good news is, this can change; the first step is being aware.”

As a young professional venturing into the entrepreneurial world, Weeks’ biggest challenge was making the decision to take the leap. She said, “The unknown can be very scary. Even though I had started my business on the side, I actually went full-time in October 2008 – the height of the recession. Still, I think it goes to show that the reality is never as the anticipation. The other challenge is that, that buck stops here. I’m solely responsible for every aspect of my business, which obviously is not the case in corporations.”

Weeks is also the featured author of “101 Ways to Enhance Your Career.” Her major focus in this book was the four most effective job strategies. She noted, “the majority of job seekers rely on open postings, but that’s actually the lowest rate of success.”

What can participants at the Symposium expect from Charlotte? She stated, “How cool would it be to not have to job search, and instead have opportunities come to you? By making career management part of your life instead of something you do only when you want a new job, it’s very likely you can become a sought-after employee. I will be sharing practical ideas on how to make this happen. As just one example, I will share a few things that can be done in less than ten minutes daily. Done regularly, you will build a solid reputation and people will come after you.”

Sandrine Rattan is a Communications Specialist who has also studied Psychology/Environmental Relationships and Sociology.
