Ganja fields destroyed

Police reports say at about 6 am on Saturday, a party of officers from the Santa Cruz Police Station, under the supervision of Senior Superintendent Boxill and ASP Ali, with assistance from Sgt Maraj, Cpl Ali, and other officers from the Hot-Spot Crime Unit and the North Eastern Division Task Force, made their way approximately two miles into the forests of the Santa Cruz community where they came upon three marijuana fields.

These fields, police said, contained approximately 30,000 plants, along with a camp in which approximately 15 pounds of cured marijuana was being stored.

The cured drug was immediately seized and the officers spent most of the morning destroying the marijuana fields.

However, since there were no persons near the fields at the time of their discovery, no one was arrested.

The exercise was part of the continuing “zero tolerance” approach to crime by officers of the North Eastern Division as previously mandated by Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams.
