Fatima seal Schools Premier Division crown

Needing a win to complete a 100-percent record and secure the title, Fatima duly accomplished both feats at the Vishnu Boys’ Ground in Caroni.

Vishnu Boys posted a score of 192 runs for five wickets in their allotted 50 overs with Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies Under- 19 batsman Kirstan Kallicharan hitting 91 not out, while Jerlani Seales was unbeaten on 65.

Akil Guerra claimed two wickets for 36 runs for the visitors.

In response, Fatima raced to 194/2 in 22 overs with another national youth team player, Amir Jangoo, lashing 112 (including 10 sixes and seven fours) while Wendell George was unbeaten on 44. Jean Paul Rocke was the other not-out batsman on 27.

Fatima coach Miguel Paty commented, “it’s the first time we’ve won the title in about 30 years. It’s a good achievement by the boys.

They played unbeaten last year and came second to Naparima but they wanted to win the title this year.

“They’re very excited and it’s something they wanted to do for the school,” Paty added. “We have the Intercol title to defend now.” Naparima, who had a disappointing defence to their title, took care of Barrackpore West by seven wickets at Barrackpore.

Batting first, Barrackpore West were bowled out for 134 in 40.4 overs with Avinash Mahabirsingh grabbing 6/22 and Shadell Soogrim 2/19. Renee Jangeesingh (28 not out) and Stephen Cyrus (28) were the only scorers of note for the hosts.

Naparima reached 139/3 in 25.4 overs with Cephas Cooper hitting 75 not out, while Michael Dindial got 3/34 for Barrackpore.

Trinity East eked out a one-wicket win over Hillview at Honeymoon Park, Tunapuna.

Hillview were restricted to 175 with Nathaniel McDavid (45), Jonathan Hosein (40) and Tishan Ramroop (22) their leading scorers. Sachin Seecharan (5/28), Teron Jadoo (2/34) and Keron Simmons (2/40) did the damage for Trinity East. At their turn at the crease, Trinity East made 176/9 with Seecharan scoring 59, Darion Sooklal 32, Leonardo Julien 23 and Simmons 22. McDavid (2/26) and Kareem Muradali (2/30) were the main wicket-takers for Hillview.

The contest between Fyzabad and Presentation Chaguanas was called off by the umpires due to alleged misconduct by players.

Presentation were on 133/6 in response to Fyzabad’s 150 when the officials were forced to call a halt to the match as the Fyzabad players allegedly protested an umpire’s decision. The SSCL Disciplinary Committee will have to meet to determine the outcome of the fixture.

Other Scor es - North Championship - At Carapichaima: CARAPICHAIMA EAST 417/8 vs QRC 175/3 - Navin Bedasie 81 not out, Adam Reyes 33 not out. Carapichaima East won by 242 runs.

At Mucurapo: MANZANILLA 136 - R Barnwell 53, D Ramdeny 29; R Juman 4/30, K Constantine 3/16 vs EAST MUCURAPO 50 - K Persad 5/3, D Sooklal 4/16.

Manzanilla won by 86 runs.
